Well I figured out what the problem was, and it was PEBKAC.
I put the dm2 midi mapper file in the mappers folder and the dm2 device file in the devices folder, but I just rescanned for new devices and didn't actually restart the program thinking that would work. I'm just about to test it and all should be fine now.
I figured I had to be doing something wrong, and I was right (about being wrong that is).

can u guys tell us how to mapp the buttons to our own liking, id like some kill bass buttons and some samples and fx buttons it should be like when you open up the remote control tab, click on a regular midi controller, and then you just find the function of the button you want. Then you click the button you want it to work with ( it says auto learn up top. you can mess around with the settings to get it to work just right for you) sorry if that wasnt too descriptive, but its not too hard to figure out P.S. This was a lot easier for me in virtual dj 5.x rather than the new 6.x ones

I have been working on getting this freakin thing to work for... a long freakin time now. I have tried on different computers, with limited success. I've reverted 3 outta the 4 systems I own to XP either by making them "dualboot" or just plain wiping clean and doin a fresh installs. Ive tried different versions of Virtual DJ (5.0~ 5.0.7~ 5.2 ~ 6.0 ~ 6.0.8 ~ 6.1) And Ive tried to follow the outlined steps I have found here in this forum (thank you very much by the way, without you I would have scrapped my DM2 for sure by now) Anyway, I'm not sure what I am doing wrong but this whole process of getting this thing to function has REALLY opened my eyes and made me realize the value of "plug and play" devices (something that most people just take for granted) SO... heres what Ive done, please tell me wher i went wrong or whats missing *Installed the DM2 drivers using the XP/2000 updates *ran the calibration dealie *dnld'd DM2toMIDI and installed it *dnld'd MIDIYOKE from midiox.com guys and installed it *dnld'd "DM2 definition.xml" saved in "devices" folder of VDJ *dnld'd "DM2 mapping" saved in "mappers" of VDJ *dnld'd "keyboard mapping" also saved in "mappers" *opened DM2toMIDI app and set the MIDI in and out to MIDIYOKE 1 *dnld'd "dm2.dm2" and when i tried to load in to DM2toMIDI app i got "file corrupt" error message, so i did the same as previous poster and tried cut'n paste'n the code and makin a valid .dm2 file but still cant get it to work *opened VDJ ver 6.x and went to settings/mapping and made sure all devices are shown and now it shows 2 listings for keyboard and nothing for DM2 or MIDI wrapper i know the error is somewhere in the last 2 steps but after hours of tweakin on this freakin thing i decided to ask for help by the way, I have got it to work on my laptop... kinda.. every thing but scratchrings<--- which happens to be the main thing i want to use. But after checkin out the PDF I really want to test the whole thing out so what am i missing? one more question, but not about DM2... How come when running the exact same OS and version of VDJ on 2 different computers but almost identical in specs (i.e. 3.0 ghz hyperthread P4, 1 GB RAM, Dual Head 256MB Display cards, 160GB HDDs) on one, certain sound effect plug-ins work and on the other they dont? (fx in question: "NoBeat Effects" and "NorthPole") my hunch is something to do with DirectX but

I've done these same steps and I can't get VDJ to read the controller... I'm not sure what I did wrong, since I followed the directions step by step. Any ideas?

thanks much appreciated if you need any help customizing a setup to suit your needs. you or any one i will help out.. just sketch up a photo of the buttons and the action and i will see what i can do. thank -blue I think the setup that was designed by djprotojeex with th 4 modes is great. Nice job on the pdf layout sheets, too. The only change I personally would like, and maybe you could help me with it is: MODE 2 (scratchring action) change to "loop_move" or loop shift instead of "scratch".. actually i refer to it as "bend" because that seems to be the action i get out of it. it seems that just about every VDJ skin has a knob next to the loop buttons that is used to shift the loop. I would like it if the DM2 rings could be mapped to do this. I'm sure that its just a couple of lines of code that need to be changed, but i cant figure out where. help please..?
