** WARNING, PERFORMING THIS MOD INCORRECTLY COULD DAMAGE YOUR DM2, ONLY PERFORM THIS IF YOU ARE CONFIDENT THAT YOU WONT USE BRUTE FORCE AT ANY STAGE OF THE MANOUVRE ***
Tools needed :- Small Crosshead Screwdriver, 16 ROUND headed Screws approx 5 - 8 mm long, with a NARROW THREAD
Hi Dm2 peeps,
Have just performed a neat upgrade to the responsiveness of the 8 radial buttons on each jog wheel.
We all know that they require quit a strong press to activate so heres what i did.
(this mod extends the push rods that make contact with the microswitches that control the on off of each button)
1. Unplug Dm2 from PC turn over to underside.
2. Remove and retain the multitude of screws from the back plate.
3. Starting with the left hand ring locate the brown printed circuit board (PCB) with two big ribbon cables coming from it.
4. This PCB has 6 screws holding on to the cage below, so remove the 4 outer screws and also you will see 2 more in the center probably hidden by the ribbon cables. Put these in a safe place.
5. Quite gently, holding the ribon cables wiggle the PCB a little to disconnect it from the grey cage.
6. Move the PCB out of the way, possible to rest it near the right one.
Here comes the genius part!!!!!
7. You will see, underneath of where the PCB was mounted are the underside of the buttons.
You will notice each button has a push rod (small sticky up tube with a hole in) coming from it, there should be EIGHT push rods with holes in the end and FOUR longer rods that held the PCB down.
8. As you can now see the push rods coming from the buttons are like a little tubes. What you must do now find some Round headed screws that will fit in the end of the push rods and enable you to screw them all the way in, right up to the end **WITHOUT ANY SERIOUS FORCE NEEDED TO SCREW IN** with a bit of trial and error with different ROUND headed screws you will find the right ones. Insert a screw into every one of the eight rods ensuring the screws are as far in to the rods as you can get.i.e. none of the neck of the screw showing only the head.
9. If you have done this correctly you can now REM OUNT the PCB with the 4 outer screws and the 2 middle screws. Do this gently as if you over tighten you may jam a button down.
With the back still off turn the unit over on a towel and plug in to USB and test that you are getting a nice response from each button. If not a little adjustment to either the screw heads or the PCB mounting screws may be required. But to be honest if you go carefull it work like a charm.
Please dont send me hatemail of you bust a button!!!
