This will be long but this is my intro story. Many years ago my DJ friend Gleek got a DM2 for cheap and was raving about how it was an awesome cheap hardware solution for little money. I went to K-Mart the next day and picked one up for myself and got it working with the Traktor software. This had to be around 2002-2003.
Eventually I upgraded to PCDJ FX because of that guitar center screw-up where they were selling the software and the DAC-2 hardware controller for just $200. I got the second to last one they had in stock because everyone else jumped on that as well (back then it went for $300 for each component so I saved about $400.)
Seeing no further need for the DM2 because it wouldn't work with FX I gave it to my friend Todd who was also DJ'ing with me at the club and using Traktor.
Eventually I started doing the VJ thing with Virtual DJ and Todd got out of the DJ game ages ago. Then I got a laptop from another friend of mine which has Windows 7 on it. I really didn't really think about using the DM2 however until I got an M-Audio XSession Pro from my friend Aaron.
So I got the DM2 back from Todd and hunted down the drivers as he lost the disk, and then the DM2MIDI software I had on an old hard drive. Got DM2MIDI working (or at least it seems to) however when I installed the drivers for the DM2 I got a nice BSOD. So I rebooted and tried again, at which point the system just locked up (no BSOD, just froze).
I came here looking for a solution, finding that there is one being worked on but for the moment I'm pretty much SOL unless I downgrade or run a VM with XP SP3.
Still getting used to Windows 7 and it doesn't do everything I like, but I also fix computers so I should use what's current (although I skipped over Vista because it's crap). Anyway that's the story.
So after all that work I'm thinking about trying to learn how to actually code drivers and get it to work in 7 because even though I hear this chip supports virtualization I'd like it to work naively since it's a Sony Vaio and they're known for getting a bit hot (65 degrees centigrade when scanning BPMs, but my room is already hot anyway since I'm on the top floor.) However that's going to be a lot of effort and I'm bad at math (although I hear it's mostly the syntax that matters with that, and I have a computer for calculations so hopefully the math wouldn't be too hard).
Due to being out of work I have a lot of free expendable time and it might be fun to learn how to do this. I don't suppose anyone wants to help me with this?
In any case I've already learned a lot going through the archives of the forum so thanks for that and I'll keep checking to see if anyone ever comes up with a solution.
